If you are struggling with symptoms of hormonal imbalance, you don't have to suffer any longer. Many of us were not taught about the changes to expect in the peri-post menopause years and we certainly weren't taught how to manage them.

There are many lifestyle changes that can have a profound impact on our health and well being as we begin the transition through menopause. Hormone Yoga was the start of a beautiful journey of discovery for me. Since I started this practice in 2018, I have learned so much about food, exercise, sleep, stress, hormones and how these things must be looked at differently during this stage of life.

Hormone Yoga is known throughout Europe and Brazil, in fact many doctors recommend it there. Unfortunately, less than 5 of us certified to teach Dinah's Method in Canada and the US, so you may not have heard much about it. When I experienced a relief of all of my symptoms after a few months of practicing, I knew that I had to share HY with others. I mean look how fantastic this woman looks- I think she was 92 or 93 here!

Hormone Yoga (HY) is a set sequence of dynamic yoga postures, dynamic breathing techniques, Tibetan energy techniques, and yoga nidra.

HY balances hormones naturally and holistically, focusing specifically on the ovaries, thyroid, para-thyroids, pituitary and adrenal glands. 

This system was created by Dinah Rodrigues, 95yr old Brazilian psychologist and yoga therapist.

PMS, Peri/Menopause, Infertility, PCOS, Hypothyroid, Dryness, Acne, Hot Flashes, Sex Drive, Weight, Digestion, Energy, Anxiety, Brain Fog, Sleep, Reactivity and so much more.

HY is a specific sequence of dynamic yoga postures and strong abdominal breathing which stimulates and activates the glands through massage and compression.

We then circulate the energy using a Tibetan technique to reinforce the physical work.

Most Women over 35. If you don’t have any symptoms, this practice may prevent them!

It will take you approximately 25-30 minutes, 4-7 times a week, once you have learned the technique. 

Stress is a leading cause of disease and unhappiness and it also affects our hormones.

A key element in Hormone Yoga is focusing on managing our stress.

You will find classes here that promote deep relaxation and tension release.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

If you have experienced, or are experiencing, any of the below please contact me before you begin the course. You may need to consult with your doctor before joining HY classes.
*If there are contraindications, you may still be able to practice, but with modifications specific to your situation.

Contraindications:

  • If you have ever had a hormone dependant breast cancer (and other hormone dependent cancers), you cannot practice HY.

  • If you have glaucoma or a detached retina, you cannot practice HY.

  • If you've had appendicitis without the appendix being removed, you cannot practice HY.

  • Advanced Endometriosis- if advanced, you cannot practice.
    Medical permission needed if it isn’t advanced. Contact me before you register to determine if HY is right for you.

  • Fibroids/Myomas over 3cm tend to grow bigger, so you cannot practice HY with them. However, medical permission is needed for small fibroids, under 3cm, because they tend to get smaller, but you may need to modify the practice. If you are right at 3cm, contact me before you register to determine if HY is right for you.

  • Serious Osteoporosis, contact me before you register to determine if HY is right for you.

  • You cannot practice while you are pregnant, but you can practice 6 months after having the baby or if you have doctor's permission to proceed with regular exercise.
    HY can help with breastfeeding and getting pregnant!

  • Diastasis Recti- You can't practice with it, but once it is healed you can.

  • Recent Eye Surgery (concern is increased ocular pressure, we invert and we retain breath), so you must be fully healed and have permission to invert and retain breath.

Conditions that must have modifications or possibly doctor's permission:

If you have anything listed below, contact me before you register for the HY Workshop so that we can determine if this practice is appropriate for you.

  • Heart Conditions

  • Hypertension

  • Undiagnosed Abdominal Pain

  • Severe Psychiatric Problems

  • Labyrinthitis or Vertigo (depending on severity, HY may be ok)

  • After any surgery medical permission is needed.
